THE EFFECTS OF AGE AND HEIGHT POSITION ON THE PHYSICALPROPERTIES OF BAMBOO (Bambusa nutans Wall. ex Munro) IN BAC KAN

The age plant and height position (Bottom, middle, top) affect physical properties. Bambusa nutans Wall. ex Munro. This study determined the changes of some physical properties of B. nutans based on plant age and height position such as density, shrinkage, and moisture content after harvesting. The results showed that the physical properties at all age levels changed from root to tip: the basic density ranged increase from bottom to top, increases from age 1 to age 3 and declines at age 5ranged from0.434 – 0.614 g/cm3.while the air-dried density (moisture content = 12%) ranged from 0.508 – 0.731 g/cm3. The radial and tangential shrinkage of the moisture content at 0%ranged increase from bottom to top, increases from age 1 to age 3, and declines at age 5 ranged from 4.34 – 9.75%and from 3.00 – 7.99%, The moisture content range declines from bottom to top, declines from age 1 to age 3 and stable at age 5, ranged from 68.25 – 96.42%.
